Twilight at Winona Lake

As a photographer, it’s my job to understand light. I have to know the ins and outs of the way it works, how it changes and how to use it to communicate the mood or message I wish. I also love film. I love the feel of it and the way it makes you stop and really think about what you want to photograph. So I thought to myself, “Why not just take my favorite time of night and my favorite type of photography and mix them?”

So this is it. I took my favorite film camera off the shelf. It looks a bit different than your traditional 35mm. It is a medium-format camera, meaning it shoots larger film than a normal 35mm. This camera in particular shoots square shots and has two lenses – one for viewing and one for the film to be photographed through. This means that you can compose your image, focus and shoot without ever taking your eyes off of of the viewfinder.

Oh, and in case I didn’t mention it, the viewfinder is on top of the camera.

It looks like this:

And the image on top like this:

And the light was so gorgeous last, I couldn’t resist shooting some digital as well. Enjoy God’s beauty.
